Paul Heyckendorf showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zico Zellier in the 4th minute of the match. 6 minutes into the match, Sven-Edvin Jansson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Paul Heyckendorf. Academica Pulheim's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Sven-Edvin Jansson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save GuateFortín from getting a goal against them. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alex Mansilha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sven-Edvin Jansson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Heyckendorf read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Academica Pulheim's Paul Heyckendorf played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 27th minute of play. In the 29th minute, Academica Pulheim's Alex Mansilha ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Nery Pumpido. Nery Pumpido yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. In the 33rd minute Thierry Henry shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul Heyckendorf saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Academica Pulheim's Paul Heyckendorf played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zico Zellier in the 34th minute of play. After some careless play in the GuateFortín defense, Kurt Ahrem kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nery Pumpido. The GuateFortín fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nery Pumpido should have stopped the shot. Simon Beuke made in the 38th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by GuateFortín's Angel Alvarenga. Thierry Henry recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Zico Zellier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paul Heyckendorf having to interfere. 43 minutes into the match, Academica Pulheim's goal looked a bit too open when Thierry Henry came free, but Paul Heyckendorf reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 46th minute the ball was on its way in behind Academica Pulheim's goalkeeper Paul Heyckendorf, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Alex Mansilha stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Alex Mansilha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nery Pumpido showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alex Mansilha in the 52nd minute of the match. GuateFortín's Thierry Henry got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nery Pumpido made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Mansilha in the 57th minute of play. Paul Heyckendorf made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thierry Henry in the 60th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alex Mansilha in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nery Pumpido prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Paul Heyckendorf made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zico Zellier in the 65th minute. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lutz Golke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Academica Pulheim's Paul Heyckendorf got control of the ball when Thierry Henry tried to sneak it across the goal line. 69 minutes into the game, Lutz Golke cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Nery Pumpido was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Academica Pulheim's Maxime Vrints was substituted for Lutz Golke. Academica Pulheim's Zbigniew Setara was substituted for Kurt Ahrem. GuateFortín's Pablo Mora was substituted for Zico Zellier. Academica Pulheim's Roberto Seppmann was substituted for Reinhard Baum. GuateFortín made a substitution. William Villanueva replaced Sven-Edvin Jansson. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 75th minute of the game. One of Academica Pulheim:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of GuateFortín:s goal. Academica Pulheim:s Paul Heyckendorf showed great skill when he stopped Angel Alvarenga:s penalty. In the 79th minute the ball was on its way in behind Academica Pulheim's goalkeeper Paul Heyckendorf, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 80th minute of the match GuateFortín got a corner. Academica Pulheim's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Angel Alvarenga ran over to the corner to take the kick. 95 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Alex Mansilha came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alex Mansilha in the 96th minute of play. GuateFortín's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
