Spectators: 7698 (Terracing: 5775, Seating: 1770, VIP seats: 153) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Cyrille Melon took the kick off in the first half of the match. When Catugi FC's Carlos Alberto Soares in the 4th minute got a chance for a shot 4th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye R.C. Marseille's goalie prevented a goal. After a rather tough play, Catugi FC's Benjamim Alvarenga got a free kick in the 8th minute. In the 11thth minute of the game Carlos Alberto Soares who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but R.C. Marseille's Didier Lafargue was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Carlos Alberto Soares in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Didier Lafargue saved R.C. Marseille from getting behind. Didier Lafargue made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 12th minute of play. Mihail Toader who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 14thth minute tested the skills of Reko Nybacka when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Reko Nybacka came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by R.C. Marseille's Cyrille Melon. But to his dismay, Cyrille Melon quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Reko Nybacka took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cyrille Melon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jean-Marc Buisson hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Didier Lafargue showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fabiano Maranhense in the 24th minute of the match. A collision led to Catugi FC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Benjamim Alvarenga hit a great ball. 29 minutes into the match, Catugi FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cyrille Melon came free, but Reko Nybacka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Carlos Alberto Soares in the 31st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Didier Lafargue prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the match clock showed 31 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Carlos Alberto Soares sped through R.C. Marseille's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Didier Lafargue. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Renan Bouzat during the 33rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 34th match minute, R.C. Marseille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Renan Bouzat to maneuver through the defense. After 37 played minutes R.C. Marseille got a freekick which was hit by Ghislain Ménétrier. 46 minutes into the match, Cyrille Melon notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Catugi FC's Reko Nybacka. Reko Nybacka was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Carlos Alberto Soares to make the kick off. R.C. Marseille's Didier Lafargue proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save R.C. Marseille from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Alberto Soares in the 57th minute of play forced R.C. Marseille's goalkeeper Didier Lafargue to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reko Nybacka took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cyrille Melon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 64 minutes R.C. Marseille's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Erik Sanches who took care of the corner kick. Catugi FC's Erik Sanches was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Didier Lafargue in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Carlos Alberto Soares's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 69thth minute, Didier Lafargue skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Catugi FC's Carlos Alberto Soares got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Catugi FC's goalkeeper Reko Nybacka, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Didier Lafargue showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 85th minute of the match. Djibril Mourot received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Reko Nybacka tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Renan Bouzat was shown his second yellow card after 93 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 94 played minutes R.C. Marseille got a freekick which was hit by Renan Bouzat. The goalkeeper, Didier Lafargue, was totally fooled by Catugi FC's Erik Sanches, who 97 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Catugi FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
