An unexpectedly hard shot by Jiang De in the 4th minute of play forced Delta FS's goalkeeper Gualter Roriz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marcus Odin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Amedeo De Matteis got free with Samuel Fiúza in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gualter Roriz came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by Gremio Viana's Jiang De. But to his dismay, Jiang De quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. 20 minutes into the match, Delta FS's goal looked a bit too open when Jiang De came free, but Gualter Roriz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 23 minutes had been played when some careless play by Delta FS's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Augustin Panaiteanu was slow to take the kick. During this time Gremio Viana's players had a chance to rest. Ke Zhi Jian hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Samuel Fiúza was a little too slow when Álvaro Vilaverde got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 25th minute. The score was now 1-2. After a rather tough play, Gremio Viana's Fabrizio Crognale got a free kick in the 29th minute. Samuel Fiúza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcus Odin in the 30th minute of play. Jiang De recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 34 minutes into the game, Walter Samuel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Delta FS's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gremio Viana the free kick. After 34 played minutes Delta FS got a freekick which was hit by Walter Samuel. A collision led to Gremio Viana getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Tony Påk hit a great ball. Samuel Fiúza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andaka Mula, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Walter Samuel made in the 43rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Gremio Viana's Amado Melo. After the first half Gremio Viana were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Gremio Viana's Higino Queirós managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Walter Samuel in the 55 minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jiang De got free with Gualter Roriz in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In a very dangerous position, a player in Delta FS fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 57th minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Gualter Roriz, was totally fooled by Gremio Viana's Augustin Panaiteanu, who 58 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andaka Mula in the 60th minute of play forced Gremio Viana's goalkeeper Samuel Fiúza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Delta FS's zone, Carlos Luna stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gualter Roriz came out of the goal and Carlos Luna tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 68 minutes into the match, Gremio Viana's Carlos Luna sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gualter Roriz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Samuel Fiúza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andaka Mula, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. In the 71st minute, Arí Tepedino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gremio Viana made a substitution. Antonio Calisto replaced Tony Påk. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Gremio Viana would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
