Club Deportivo Logroño's Victoro Selgas got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Victoro Selgas shot from long distance in the 10th minute, but Dale Tompkins was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. The supporters of Club Deportivo Logroño booed when AFC Ascoli was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dom Cunningham didn't get a good kick on the ball. AFC Ascoli's Dale Tompkins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Victoro Selgas in the 14th minute of play. Salomon Almonte recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kristian Topham in the 19th minute of play forced Club Deportivo Logroño's goalkeeper Samuel Falguera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind AFC Ascoli's goalkeeper Dale Tompkins, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ismael Cabezon hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Dale Tompkins made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Salomon Almonte in the 31st minute of play. After 35 minutes, Salomon Almonte mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Deportivo Logroño and the AFC Ascoli players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 35 played minutes Club Deportivo Logroño got a freekick which was hit by Salomon Almonte. A collision led to Club Deportivo Logroño getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Yaniusky Chavarria hit a great ball. Club Deportivo Logroño's Salomon Almonte got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, AFC Ascoli's Dale Tompkins got control of the ball when Salomon Almonte tried to sneak it across the goal line. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Salomon Almonte made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Salomon Almonte managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Deportivo Logroño's supporters rose to their feet, but Salomon Almonte was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dale Tompkins breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Club Deportivo Logroño getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Ismael Cabezon hit a great ball. In the 57thth minute of the game Salomon Almonte who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but AFC Ascoli's Dale Tompkins was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 58th match minute, AFC Ascoli was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chesney Jobson to maneuver through the defense. After 61 played minutes Club Deportivo Logroño got a freekick which was hit by Yaniusky Chavarria. Dale Tompkins came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by Club Deportivo Logroño's Salomon Almonte. But to his dismay, Salomon Almonte quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. If Salomon Almonte had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 70th minute, Salomon Almonte got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Manuel Chavarre hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. 74 minutes into the match, AFC Ascoli's goal looked a bit too open when Salomon Almonte came free, but Dale Tompkins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. AFC Ascoli's Dale Tompkins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Salomon Almonte in the 76th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Salomon Almonte in the 85th minute of play forced AFC Ascoli's goalkeeper Dale Tompkins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 94 minutes into the game, Chesney Jobson recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Samuel Falguera. Chesney Jobson showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. The score was 1-1 after 90 minutes, which forced the match into extra-time.

After the break the players went out on the field to play the first half of overtime with revived energy in their legs. AFC Ascoli's Chesney Jobson started the play with the initial kick off. Xosepe Servicial hit a great freekick 99 minutes into the match.
