In the 8th minute, 郭兴树 sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and KV Mechelen's 方皓洲 didn't even have to move. 庄凡昂 didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 11th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. 16 minutes into the match, KV Mechelen's 莫霆真 sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that 庄凡昂 narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 20th minute, one of KV Mechelen:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for KV Mechelen. 24 minutes into the match, 柯云城 notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of VfL Bochum 1848's 庄凡昂. 庄凡昂 was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 冯昆威 sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. KV Mechelen's 尹川翀 quite brazenly broke a throw-in by 麦坚坚, made in the 35th minute of the game. Téo Veiga made in the 39th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by VfL Bochum 1848's 龙永剑. An unexpectedly hard shot by 李霆鹰 in the 40th minute of play forced KV Mechelen's goalkeeper 方皓洲 to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, VfL Bochum 1848's 龙永剑 got a free kick in the 41st minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

If 李霆鹰 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 莫霆真 recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 方皓洲 showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 李霆鹰, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. 马战斐 scored 2-3 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of 方皓洲, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When 李霆鹰 came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the VfL Bochum 1848 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that 李霆鹰 couldn't finish the play. 庞辰笑 hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. In the 67th minute, 尹川翀 got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 冯昆威 blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without 方皓洲 having to make a save. 莫霆真 fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without 庄凡昂 having to interfere. 冯昆威 received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. 方皓洲 tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. KV Mechelen's 方皓洲 played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by 李霆鹰 in the 85th minute of play. 庄凡昂 showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from 莫霆真 in the 86th minute of the match. VfL Bochum 1848's 庄凡昂 played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by 莫霆真 in the 93rd minute of play. The VfL Bochum 1848 supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing VfL Bochum 1848 would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
