After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Alejandro Rufo got a free kick in the 15th minute. With 17 minutes on the clock, Atilano Feo commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Sporting de Gijón:s Óscar Cordoba showed great skill when he stopped Mauricio Salazar:s penalty. In the 20th minute, Matias Bilintx sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Sitges's Curro Climent didn't even have to move. Curro Climent showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Diego Maradona in the 23rd minute of the match. 28 minutes into the match, Sitges's goal looked a bit too open when Wayne Rooney came free, but Curro Climent reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wayne Rooney in the 29th minute of play forced Sitges's goalkeeper Curro Climent to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 31 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Curro Climent narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Baldemar Folch in the 77th minute of play. Saturnino Curcio fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 80th minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball went over. It was a very nice shot. Sporting de Gijón's Carolo Ovando was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Baldemar Folch in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. Wayne Rooney charged in rather forcefully in the 97th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wayne Rooney the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Sitges booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wayne Rooney didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Sporting de Gijón players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Sitges from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
