Curro Climent was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a little luck, Sitges's Curro Climent got control of the ball when Diego Maradona tried to sneak it across the goal line. Mauricio Salazar hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Diego Maradona did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 4-1 to the left of a surprised Curro Climent 38 minutes into the match. In the 40th match minute, Sitges was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Josep Vila to maneuver through the defense. Venancio Emesto could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Curro Climent made a huge save. If Matias Bilintx had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wayne Rooney sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.

Sporting de Gijón's Carlo Crema was substituted for Venancio Emesto. Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio was substituted for Kauan de Barros. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. 55 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Ger Branca came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matias Bilintx recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 63 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Ger Branca came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute Matias Bilintx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Curro Climent saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sitges's supporters rose to their feet, but Lorenz De Paula was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Óscar Cordoba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
