Dario Betzanos scored 1-0 in the 12th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bruno Antognoni, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Hilario Pesquera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lautaro-Gabriel Martinez in the 14th minute of play. In the 18th minute Enzo Luongo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hilario Pesquera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dario Betzanos succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-0 in the 27th playminute. Bruno Antognoni showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dario Betzanos, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 43rd minute Enzo Luongo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hilario Pesquera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Uruguay's Hilario Pesquera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enzo Luongo in the 44th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dario Betzanos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Italy made a substitution. Flavio Miconi replaced Lautaro-Gabriel Martinez. After 63 played minutes Italy got a freekick which was hit by Alessandro Mara. Estevam Moroño might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bruno Antognoni. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Estevam Moroño ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 80th minute, Estevam Moroño got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 87 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Flavio Miconi came free, but Hilario Pesquera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 2-3 became the score in the 89th minute when Flavio Miconi elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Uruguay's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Dino Grilli 94 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-4. Italy played a much better game than Uruguay and deserved their victory. The Uruguay players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
