Frank Mora showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Svetaslav Yanchyk in the 10th minute of the match. 12 minutes into the match, Aurelio Badilla notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Belarus's Svetaslav Navojka. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Aurelio Badilla made a kick off. Svetaslav Navojka came out of the goal in the 53rd minute to try and stop a shot by Costa Rica's Reiner Fallas. But to his dismay, Reiner Fallas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Jorge Luna might have been able to make a better finish in the 57th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Svetaslav Navojka. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jorge Luna ran back to his position shaking his head. After 57 minutes, Aurelio Badilla made it 4-0 with a short kick to the right side. Belarus's Svetaslav Navojka tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 62 minutes into the match, Belarus's goal looked a bit too open when Reiner Fallas came free, but Svetaslav Navojka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Frank Mora made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vadim Borisenko in the 66th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jorge Luna in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Svetaslav Navojka prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Costa Rica's Alain Duarte was substituted for Giovanni Lehman. Costa Rica made a substitution. Alfonso Mejias replaced Aurelio Badilla. Ivan Mezin hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Svetaslav Navojka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfonso Mejias, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Svetaslav Navojka took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alfonso Mejias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alfonso Mejias scored 5-0 in the 85th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Svetaslav Navojka, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Marat Lebedev might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Frank Mora. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Marat Lebedev ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Luna in the 89th minute of play forced Belarus's goalkeeper Svetaslav Navojka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 94th minute of the match Costa Rica got a corner. Belarus's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Chunche Montero ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Costa Rica's Alfonso Mejias to fire away a dangerous shot which Svetaslav Navojka despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Svetaslav Navojka didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jorge Luna went, in the 95th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Costa Rica fans cheered their team off the field, for while Belarus had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
