With a couple of smart ball manuevers Aurelio Badilla in the 17th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Svetaslav Navojka saved Belarus from getting behind. Frank Mora showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vadim Borisenko in the 21st minute of the match. The supporters of Belarus booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chunche Montero didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 24 played minutes Belarus got a freekick which was hit by Ivan Mezin. Reiner Fallas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Svetaslav Navojka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reiner Fallas, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Ivan Mezin hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Frank Mora made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Vadim Borisenko sent off a good shot on target. Petr Lykov kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. In the 43rd minute of the match Chunche Montero sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Svetaslav Navojka skillfully saved the ball. Costa Rica's Frank Mora proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Pilip Mikhailov to make the kick off. In the 53rdth minute of the game Aurelio Badilla who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Belarus's Svetaslav Navojka was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With his leg Svetaslav Navojka managed to avoid a goal in the 78thth minute, when Costa Rica's Alfonso Mejias fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 80 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Svetaslav Yanchyk came free, but Frank Mora reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Svetaslav Navojka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alfonso Mejias, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Alfonso Mejiass short, quick shot in the 83rdth minute got Svetaslav Navojka to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Costa Rica would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
