The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Barry Dobson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toby Grainger having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Dakar SC's Rhys Colley slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Trevor Featherstone. That made the score 1-0 after 6 minutes of play. When Roger Arrowsmith came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Dakar SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roger Arrowsmith couldn't finish the play. When Roger Arrowsmith fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Dakar SC's protests and gave Roger Arrowsmith a yellow card for diving instead. In the 14th match minute, Dakar SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roger Arrowsmith to maneuver through the defense. Leigh's Trevor Featherstone proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Leigh from getting a goal against them. Brad Deaconsfield lost his temper 18 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 18 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Leigh! In the 22nd minute, Ross Beecham hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 28 minutes, Andy Bailey mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Leigh and the Dakar SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 28 played minutes Leigh got a freekick which was hit by Andy Bailey. The crowd rose to their feet as Roger Arrowsmith kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Trevor Featherstone. That made the score 3-0 in the 29 minute of play. Victor Oates fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toby Grainger having to interfere. In the 35th minute Deon Garnett shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toby Grainger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Leigh defense, Rhys Colley kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Trevor Featherstone. The Leigh fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Trevor Featherstone should have stopped the shot. In the 39th minute, Ross Beecham got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 43 minutes into the match, Leigh's goalkeeper Trevor Featherstone had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rhys Colley. Roger Arrowsmith scored 5-0 in the 44th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Trevor Featherstone, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rhys Colley stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Trevor Featherstone didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rhys Colley went, in the 56th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. In the 60th minute, Deon Garnett made a precise shot to the right of Toby Grainger. Dakar SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 6-1. 63 minutes into the match, Rhys Colley had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Trevor Featherstone. Leigh's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rhys Colley was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 7-1. When Allan Tinker fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Dakar SC's protests and gave Allan Tinker a yellow card for diving instead. 68 minutes into the match, Dakar SC's goal looked a bit too open when Ronnie Endean came free, but Toby Grainger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match clock showed 70 minutes, the score became 7-2 when Deon Garnett sped through Dakar SC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Toby Grainger. Roger Arrowsmith struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Trevor Featherstone didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dakar SC. If Victor Oates had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roger Arrowsmith hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rhys Colley in the 87th minute of play forced Leigh's goalkeeper Trevor Featherstone to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 89 minutes into the match, Dakar SC's goal looked a bit too open when Deon Garnett came free, but Toby Grainger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leigh's Trevor Featherstone played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rhys Colley in the 92nd minute of play. Roger Arrowsmith sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
