The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Óscar Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 5th minute, when Uriel Cordearo sent off a good shot on target. Venancio Emesto got in the 6th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Dalmacio Pello handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. 9 minutes into the match, Tello AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Venancio Emesto came free, but Dalmacio Pello reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Uriel Cordearo in the 13th minute of the match. Sporting de Gijón's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Saturnino Curcio in the 20th minute. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Uriel Cordearo in the 23rd minute of play. After 23rd play minutes Uriel Cordearo shot 1-0, a short shot which went by Óscar Cordoba and just under the crossbar into goal. Dalmacio Pello showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Venancio Emesto, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Dalmacio Pello made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Maradona in the 29th minute of play. In the 36th minute Matias Bilintx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dalmacio Pello saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Faustino Unax sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Uriel Cordearo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Matias Bilintx made the kick off in the second half. Sporting de Gijón were furious when Atilano Feo was red carded, 55 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 54 minutes into the game, one of Sporting de Gijón:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Óscar Cordoba had in the 57thth minute some difficulties stopping Pastor Nofre's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 59 minutes, Dalmacio Pello successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pastor Nofre in the 65th minute of the match. Tello AFC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Pastor Nofre in the 66th minute. Lázaro Garcia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Sporting de Gijón getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Venancio Emesto hit a great ball. After having played for 76 minutes, Wayne Rooney managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting de Gijón's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wayne Rooney was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tello AFC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 81st minute, when Diego Maradona scored to the left of an out of position Dalmacio Pello, making the score, 1-1. Wayne Rooney's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 90thth minute, Dalmacio Pello skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Martin Billing in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Faustino Unax in the 97th minute of play. Neither set of supporters seemed pleased with the draw, but both teams had played equally well today.
