The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Panama's supporters rose to their feet, but Wiliam Peren was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hoàng Tran breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Wiliam Peren in the 19th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hoàng Tran prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 22nd minute of the match Panama got a corner. Vietnam's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Max Moscoso ran over to the corner to take the kick. Panama's Wiliam Peren was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Hoàng Tran in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Panama's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Max Moscoso in the 28th minute. Max Moscoso made a great header on Panama's corner, it was just that Vietnam's Hoàng Tran managed to reach the ball for a save. The Vietnam fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hoàng Tran should have stopped the shot. Leonidas Arias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hoàng Tran having to interfere. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Wiliam Peren sped through Vietnam's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Hoàng Tran. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Wiliam Peren was the one to do the kick off. Hoàng Tran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Villalaz in the 51st minute of play. Julio Corral made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Đỗ Dung sent off a good shot on target. Hoàng Tran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wiliam Peren, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. When Trịnh Phuong fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vietnam's protests and gave Trịnh Phuong a yellow card for diving instead. Panama made a substitution. Nicolás Perez replaced Leonidas Arias. After 74 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Vietnam! In the 77th minute there was a penalty for Panama. Wiliam Peren stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Hoàng Tran. 5-0.
