Spectators: 1028 (Terracing: 772, Seating: 236, VIP seats: 20) An unexpectedly hard shot by Uwe Birmes in the 6th minute of play forced Switzerland's goalkeeper Sepp Mainville to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ture Juniel in the 6th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sepp Mainville saved Switzerland from getting behind. Frank Rost was out of position in the 9 minute of play, and Alain Berset capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Alain Berset really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Sepp Mainville showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Moritz Hasenjäger in the 14th minute of the match. If Alain Berset had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sepp Mainville took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ture Juniel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 19 minutes into the match, Switzerland's goal looked a bit too open when Ture Juniel came free, but Sepp Mainville reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 20 minutes Switzerland's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Uwe Birmes who took care of the corner kick. Sepp Mainville showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ture Juniel, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. In the 23rd minute of the game Larry Houben made a throw-in which Ture Juniel played forward. Alain Berset might have been able to make a better finish in the 26th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Frank Rost. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alain Berset ran back to his position shaking his head. Sepp Mainville took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ture Juniel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sepp Mainville didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Uwe Birmes went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. In the 40th minute Germany were awarded a corner. Uwe Birmes went to the cornerflag to take it. If Alain Berset had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Ronny Simmen hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Germany's Róbert Štriker was substituted for Uwe Birmes. In the 48th match minute, Switzerland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronny Simmen to maneuver through the defense. After the first half Germany were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Róbert Štriker stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sepp Mainville made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Róbert Štriker in the 54th minute of play. In the 55th minute Alain Berset shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Rost saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diego Marthaler was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 58 minutes into the match. Germany made a substitution. Sulo Montaña replaced Müslüm Baba. 57 minutes into the game, one of Switzerland:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Switzerland's Neron Veterini was substituted for Alain Berset. Sepp Mainville made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Róbert Štriker in the 66th minute of play. Sepp Mainville took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nils Hopp, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Frank Rost made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jonas Herz in the 76th minute of play. Ture Juniel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Sepp Mainville tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jonas Herz struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Frank Rost didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Switzerland. Switzerland's Roman Beljean got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Germany eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
