Petr Čech showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tobías Gunnarsson in the 14th minute of the match. Maelgwn Le Bars showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hólmfastur Óskarsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. When Össur Ármannsson came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Iceland fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Össur Ármannsson couldn't finish the play. Níls Margeirsson's late challenge caught a France's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

Iceland's Kristmundur Knútsson was substituted for Viggó Ólafsson. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tobías Gunnarsson to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Iceland's goalkeeper Petr Čech, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. France's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
