The audience thought a goal was coming when Paio York got free with Christophe Pourre in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Portugal getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Tomé Bento hit a great ball. 27 minutes into the match, France's Jocelyn Care sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Máximo Laureano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A hard shot 29 in the game by Paio York from a close distance when the talented Christophe Pourre managed to make a qualified save. France's players were relieved. Máximo Laureano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thierry Auroy in the 32nd minute of play. Portugal's Máximo Laureano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thierry Auroy in the 36th minute of play. 44 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Thierry Auroy came free, but Máximo Laureano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Máximo Laureano came out of the goal in the 46th minute to try and stop a shot by France's Thierry Auroy. But to his dismay, Thierry Auroy quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Thierry Auroy was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Máximo Laureano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Réda Kolb. In the 57th minute Jocelyn Care shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Máximo Laureano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Christophe Pourre showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paio York in the 58th minute of the match. In the 61stth minute of the game Paio York who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but France's Christophe Pourre was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. France's Jonas Daguenet was substituted for Diego Farges. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Vítor Bettencourt got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Paio York recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Portugal's Filipe Viveiros was substituted for Josué Padilha. Portugal's Gonçalo Fontoura was substituted for Herberto Ribas. France made a substitution. Pascal Laadal replaced Jocelyn Care. Portugal's Romão Mourato was substituted for Paio York. Portugal's Gonçalo Fontoura quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Ludovic Chesne, made in the 70th minute of the game. In the 72nd minute, Romão Mourato made a precise shot to the right of Christophe Pourre. France's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. 79 minutes into the game, Paul Vivien threw the ball into play from the sideline. Portugal's Vítor Bettencourt quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. When France's Harold Combettes in the 82nd minute got a chance for a shot 82nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Portugal's goalie prevented a goal. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Portugal were victorious despite being under pressure from France for much of the match.
