In the 33rdth minute of the game Gordon Harkin who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Moldova's George Buturugã was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ireland's Patty Hutton was substituted for Gordon Horgan. After 38 minutes Moldova's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Lúcio da Silva who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Ireland's corner Lúcio da Silva fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and George Buturugã quite easily take care of the ball. In the 39th minute Iurie Macovei shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ter Stegen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Iurie Macovei could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Ter Stegen made a huge save. Patty Hutton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Through an outstanding action, after 47 minutes, Ter Stegen successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The wind increased when Sergiu Cepoi made the kick off in the second half. When Marcel Nazaria came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Moldova fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marcel Nazaria couldn't finish the play. Ter Stegen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sergiu Cepoi in the 57th minute of the match. Ter Stegen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sergiu Cepoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Ireland's Ter Stegen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Perju in the 65th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Perju in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ter Stegen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Moldova's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Iurie Macovei in the 69th minute. Iurie Macovei made a great header on Moldova's corner, it was just that Ireland's Ter Stegen managed to reach the ball for a save. Ter Stegen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iurie Macovei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ter Stegen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Perju in the 74th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniel Perju in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ter Stegen saved Ireland from getting behind. 81 minutes into the match, Alexei Stratulat had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ter Stegen. Ireland's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alexei Stratulat was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. In the 90th minute Alexei Stratulat shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ter Stegen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Perju in the 94th minute of play forced Ireland's goalkeeper Ter Stegen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ter Stegen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Iurie Macovei in the 95th minute of the match.
