Spectators: 1028 (Terracing: 772, Seating: 236, VIP seats: 20) After having played for 10 minutes, Jonathan Sammut managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Malta's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jonathan Sammut was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. George Buturugã came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Malta's Jonathan Sammut. But to his dismay, Jonathan Sammut quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. George Buturugã took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonathan Sammut, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 37th minute, John Lennon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Iurie Macovei recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Malta's Neil Degabriele managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Vitalie Cotofanã in the 46 minute of the game. After the first half Malta were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Jonathan Sammut made the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, Malta's goal looked a bit too open when Mihail Pânzaru came free, but Leonardo Da Vinci reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Moldova's Ruslan Izmanã was substituted for Mihail Pânzaru. George Buturugã showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jonathan Sammut, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Malta made a substitution. Godwin Sapiano replaced Jean Carl Mintoff. Malta's Pepe Ferreira was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but George Buturugã in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 72 played minutes Malta got a freekick which was hit by Miguel Caruana. Leonardo Da Vinci showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ruslan Izmanã in the 73rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ovidiu Buturugã in the 77th minute of play forced Malta's goalkeeper Leonardo Da Vinci to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giuseppe Preca in the 78th minute of play forced Moldova's goalkeeper George Buturugã to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 81st minute Ruslan Izmanã shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonardo Da Vinci saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A throw-in in the 86th minute of the game was made by Maxim Scobioalã with Ghitã Pârlea as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Moldova's Ruslan Izmanã got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Giuseppe Preca in the 89thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of George Buturugã, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Giuseppe Preca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Giuseppe Preca got free with George Buturugã in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Malta players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
