In the 37th minute of the match John Lennon sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jacob Josef Zurflüh skillfully saved the ball. In the 47th minute Liechtenstein were awarded a corner. Sebastian Allgäuer went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Liechtenstein's corner Sebastian Allgäuer fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Leonardo Da Vinci quite easily take care of the ball.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Patrick Hanselmann stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Lukas Domuzeti kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. After having played for 56 minutes, Jonathan Sammut managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Malta's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jonathan Sammut was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 68th minute of the game Gerd Milutinov made a throw-in which Patrick Hanselmann played forward. 82 minutes into the game, Gerd Milutinov was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Liechtenstein's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Malta the free kick. After 82 played minutes Liechtenstein got a freekick which was hit by Gerd Milutinov. In the 85th minute, Giuseppe Preca made a precise shot to the right of Jacob Josef Zurflüh. Liechtenstein's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. Dominik Klaus hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. Pepe Ferreira kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the Liechtenstein players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Malta.
