The ball went over the crossbar instead. Georgia's Valeri Zabelin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miguel Sanches in the 10th minute of play. A well-hit corner resulted in Yannick Bartz heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Georgia's Paata Gagnidze quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Yannick Bartz, made in the 16th minute of the game. 17 minutes into the match, Georgia's Shota Mingrelsky sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Karlheinz Ludecke narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Karlheinz Ludecke made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shota Mingrelsky in the 21st minute of play. 25 minutes had been played when some careless play by Luxembourg's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Giorgi Lekov was slow to take the kick. During this time Georgia's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Giorgi Lekov got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Karlheinz Ludecke quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Valeri Zabelin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Sanches in the 35th minute of play. The supporters of Luxembourg booed when Georgia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emiriev Pawletko didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 46th minute the ball was on its way in behind Georgia's goalkeeper Valeri Zabelin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.

In the 59th minute Shota Mingrelsky shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karlheinz Ludecke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tim Bodenschatz in the 63rd minute of play forced Georgia's goalkeeper Valeri Zabelin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot 71 in the game by Shota Mingrelsky from a close distance when the talented Karlheinz Ludecke managed to make a qualified save. Luxembourg's players were relieved. Luxembourg's Tim Tudor was substituted for Edmund Achenbach. A sloppy throw-in by Emiriev Pawletko in the 74th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Luxembourg's Tim Bodenschatz. In the 76th minute, Shota Mingrelsky got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 78 minutes into the match, Miguel Sanches had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Valeri Zabelin. Georgia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Miguel Sanches was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The Georgia players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Luxembourg from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
