SANTOS FC- FDFDF's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Wayne Rooney was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After a rather tough play, SANTOS FC- FDFDF's Silvério do Valle got a free kick in the 15th minute. The corner led Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx to fire away a dangerous shot which Erivaldo Catarinense despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 22nd minute, one of Sporting de Gijón:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Sporting de Gijón. Sporting de Gijón:s Óscar Cordoba showed great skill when he stopped Neil Mcinnes:s penalty. SANTOS FC- FDFDF's Erivaldo Catarinense played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matias Bilintx in the 26th minute of play. After having played for 28 minutes, Edvaldo Motta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SANTOS FC- FDFDF's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edvaldo Motta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Erivaldo Catarinense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Erivaldo Catarinense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wayne Rooney, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. In the 32nd minute Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner. Matias Bilintx went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Matias Bilintx almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but SANTOS FC- FDFDF's Erivaldo Catarinense did a great save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Maradona in the 34th minute of play forced SANTOS FC- FDFDF's goalkeeper Erivaldo Catarinense to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. The Sporting de Gijón fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Óscar Cordoba should have stopped the shot. Carlos Teles kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. A throw-in in the 91st minute of the game was made by David Gilabert with Neil Mcinnes as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Matias Bilintx sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, SANTOS FC- FDFDF's Erivaldo Catarinense got control of the ball when Matias Bilintx tried to sneak it across the goal line.
