Harvey Branch scored 1-1 in the 8th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Batuğ Taşkesen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 10 minutes into the match, St. Etienne's goalkeeper Joe Ellerby had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Barlas Göçer. After having played for 12 minutes, Harvey Branch managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. St. Etienne's supporters crossed their fingers, but Harvey Branch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Batuğ Taşkesen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Seth England in the 15th minute of the match. Batuğ Taşkesen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Seth England, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. In the 18th minute Sungurhan Kayrahan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joe Ellerby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aysan Osman charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aysan Osman the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Joe Ellerby was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Barlas Göçer showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 22 minute of play. In the 25th match minute, St. Etienne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastien Murtagh to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Engin Nurkan in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Joe Ellerby prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 32 minutes into the game, Beşiktaş's Sungurhan Kayrahan nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joe Ellerby made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Batuğ Taşkesen came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by St. Etienne's Seth England. But to his dismay, Seth England quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-2. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Engin Nurkan was the one to do the kick off. After 51 played minutes St. Etienne got a freekick which was hit by Christian Osbon. Joe Ellerby showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Engin Nurkan, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. In the 56th minute, Sungurhan Kayrahan made a precise shot to the right of Joe Ellerby. St. Etienne's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-2. If Harvey Branch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joe Ellerby didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Engin Nurkan went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 5-2 was the resulting score. After some careless play in the St. Etienne defense, Barlas Göçer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joe Ellerby. The St. Etienne fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joe Ellerby should have stopped the shot. In the 72nd minute Aysan Osman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joe Ellerby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Engin Nurkan in the 75th minute of play forced St. Etienne's goalkeeper Joe Ellerby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 76 played minutes Beşiktaş got a freekick which was hit by Erkan Ulutaş. The long shot by Eddie Knowles in the 77th minute really tested Batuğ Taşkesen's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. In the 81st match minute, St. Etienne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eddie Knowles to maneuver through the defense. In the 84th minute Engin Nurkan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joe Ellerby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 94thth minute of the game Engin Nurkan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Batuğ Taşkesen made a fantastic save in the 97th minute, when Seth England sent off a good shot on target. Beşiktaş's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
