In the 3rd match minute, K. Beerschot VAC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rodd Soussan to maneuver through the defense. After 4 played minutes K. Beerschot VAC got a freekick which was hit by Rod Hartshorn. After 9 minutes, Rodd Soussan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the K. Beerschot VAC and the Olympique Lyonnais players grew even worse after the yellow card. Rodd Soussan kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rodolphe Boisard in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stefan Gunn prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Rodolphe Boisard was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 14th minute. Olympique Lyonnais's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Erwan Vetter made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Travis Beckwith in the 19th minute of play. Rodolphe Boisard succeeded in the game's 24th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. The audience was convinced that Rodolphe Boisard's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Stefan Gunn was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. In the 29th minute, Chris Cadwallader left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The K. Beerschot VAC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Rodolphe Boisard struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Stefan Gunn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Olympique Lyonnais. Rodolphe Boisard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Stefan Gunn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

After a rather tough play, Olympique Lyonnais's Rodolphe Boisard got a free kick in the 53rd minute. 56 minutes into the match, Rodolphe Boisard had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Stefan Gunn. Rodolphe Boisard took the ball and in the 63 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Stefan Gunn. Stefan Gunn dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Rodolphe Boisard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Stefan Gunn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 69 minutes into the game, Rod Hartshorn was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. K. Beerschot VAC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Olympique Lyonnais the free kick. Rodolphe Boisard scored 4-1 in the 75th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Stefan Gunn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 78th minute, Emmanuel Laumonier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Olympique Lyonnais getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Robert Teston hit a great ball. In the 80th match minute, K. Beerschot VAC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chris Cadwallader to maneuver through the defense. After 81 minutes, Émilien Reboux made it 5-1 with a short kick to the right side. K. Beerschot VAC's Stefan Gunn tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 84th match minute, Olympique Lyonnais was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Johnny Deyres to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Olympique Lyonnais's Mathieu Mendy got a free kick in the 92nd minute. Rodolphe Boisard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Stefan Gunn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Olympique Lyonnais fully deserved thier win.
