Joe Ellerby was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Émilien Reboux sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Harvey Branch received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Erwan Vetter came out and tried to block the shot, but Harvey Branch slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 9th minute. Rodolphe Boisard took the ball and in the 15 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joe Ellerby. Joe Ellerby dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Erwan Vetter made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Seth England sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in St. Etienne's zone, Rodolphe Boisard stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joe Ellerby came out of the goal and Rodolphe Boisard tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Émilien Reboux in the 23rd minute of play forced St. Etienne's goalkeeper Joe Ellerby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rodolphe Boisard in the 26th minute of play. Joe Ellerby came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Olympique Lyonnais's Samuel Laumond. But to his dismay, Samuel Laumond quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. 35 minutes into the game, Olympique Lyonnais's Rodolphe Boisard nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joe Ellerby made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. After 37 played minutes St. Etienne got a freekick which was hit by Marek Chilton. After 41 minutes of play, Olympique Lyonnais's Robert Teston made it 1-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Joe Ellerby was left in no man's land by his defense there! Felix Chapman kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. 45 minutes into the match, Olympique Lyonnais's Samuel Laumond sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Joe Ellerby narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Olympique Lyonnais's zone, Joel Castledine stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erwan Vetter came out of the goal and Joel Castledine tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Olympique Lyonnais were leading 1-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

51 minutes into the match, Émilien Reboux notched a goal, 1-6, to the right of St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby. Joe Ellerby was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Robert Teston got free with Joe Ellerby in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 60 played minutes Olympique Lyonnais got a freekick which was hit by Émilien Reboux. Joe Ellerby came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Olympique Lyonnais's Émilien Reboux. But to his dismay, Émilien Reboux quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-7. St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save St. Etienne from getting a goal against them. Olympique Lyonnais's Mathieu Mendy was substituted for Adam Puget. After 76 played minutes Olympique Lyonnais got a freekick which was hit by Rodolphe Boisard. After 77 played minutes Olympique Lyonnais got a freekick which was hit by Djibril Lepage. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Olympique Lyonnais's goalkeeper Erwan Vetter, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Erwan Vetter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joel Castledine, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Olympique Lyonnais's Émilien Reboux got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Émilien Reboux recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 83rd of the match, Rodolphe Boisard tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Joe Ellerby got in the way and made a wonderful save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodolphe Boisard in the 86th minute of play forced St. Etienne's goalkeeper Joe Ellerby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felix Chapman kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Olympique Lyonnais's Emmanuel Laumonier got a free kick in the 97th minute. The St. Etienne fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Olympique Lyonnais were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
