Tyrone Hartshorn didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Seth England went, in the 3rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. 9 minutes into the game, Middlesbrough Ironopolis's George Halliday nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joe Ellerby made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. 11 minutes into the match, St. Etienne's goal looked a bit too open when Lenny Carr came free, but Joe Ellerby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lenny Carr in the 14th minute of play. In the 15th minute, Marek Chilton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marek Chilton kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, St. Etienne's Christian Osbon got a free kick in the 21st minute. Joe Ellerby showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lenny Carr in the 25th minute of the match. When Trey Scholey fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Middlesbrough Ironopolis's protests and gave Trey Scholey a yellow card for diving instead. After 32 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Middlesbrough Ironopolis! After some careless play in the St. Etienne defense, George Halliday kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joe Ellerby. The St. Etienne fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joe Ellerby should have stopped the shot. 42 minutes into the game, Seth England recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Tyrone Hartshorn. Seth England showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-2. Joe Ellerby showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lenny Carr, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lenny Carr in the 46th minute of play forced St. Etienne's goalkeeper Joe Ellerby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Harvey Branch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-2.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Seth England to strike the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Middlesbrough Ironopolis's goal looked a bit too open when Harvey Branch came free, but Tyrone Hartshorn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to St. Etienne getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Christian Osbon hit a great ball. Joe Ellerby was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Felix McCartney. With a little luck, St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby got control of the ball when George Halliday tried to sneak it across the goal line. Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Lenny Carr got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when George Halliday got free with Joe Ellerby in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Christian Osbon during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Stan Myers got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Joe Ellerby showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Casey Oliver in the 66th minute of the match. 67 minutes into the game, Lenny Carr recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Joe Ellerby. Lenny Carr showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-3. Joe Ellerby was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Casey Oliver showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-4 in the 75 minute of play. St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 81st minute of the match, managed to save St. Etienne from getting a goal against them. Stan Myers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Joe Ellerby tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 85th minute Kris Stubbs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joe Ellerby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lenny Carr got free with Joe Ellerby in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 93rd minute, Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Casey Oliver ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Joe Ellerby. Joe Ellerby yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-5. Middlesbrough Ironopolis's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
