To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cosa Nostra's Vali Petrin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chesney Jobson in the 8th minute of play. In the 10th minute, Chesney Jobson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The AFC Ascoli fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 19th minute Marius Rareș shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dale Tompkins saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ionică Milcoveanu in the 20th minute of play forced AFC Ascoli's goalkeeper Dale Tompkins to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marius Rareș sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 39th minute, Tudor Buzilă got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 42 minutes, Mick Slade mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the AFC Ascoli and the Cosa Nostra players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 43rd match minute, AFC Ascoli was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mick Slade to maneuver through the defense. After the first half AFC Ascoli were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Chesney Jobson made a kick off. Tudor Buzilă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Tompkins having to interfere. Dale Tompkins showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marius Rareș in the 56th minute of the match. After 57 minutes AFC Ascoli's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Marius Rareș who took care of the corner kick. The supporters of Cosa Nostra booed when AFC Ascoli was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chesney Jobson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dale Tompkins showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marius Rareș, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind AFC Ascoli's goalkeeper Dale Tompkins, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ionică Milcoveanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Dale Tompkins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cosa Nostra's Ionică Milcoveanu got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Tudor Buzilă came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Cosa Nostra fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tudor Buzilă couldn't finish the play. Marius Rareș recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cosa Nostra's Tudor Buzilă got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Chesney Jobson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. AFC Ascoli's Dale Tompkins played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marius Rareș in the 80th minute of play. In the 82nd match minute, Cosa Nostra was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristi Boșneag to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Cosa Nostra's Vali Petrin got control of the ball when Mick Slade tried to sneak it across the goal line. Romeo Grindeanu charged in rather forcefully in the 90th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Cosa Nostra lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
