After some careless play in the Maidstone United AFC defense, Pete Rundle kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mickey Naisbitt. The Maidstone United AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mickey Naisbitt should have stopped the shot. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Richard Lindley in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. The audience was convinced that Benjamin Edmonton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mickey Naisbitt was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. Paul Newbury showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Richard Lindley, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Richard Lindley couldn't finish the play. 82 minutes into the game, New York Cosmos AFC's Pete Rundle nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Mickey Naisbitt made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Maidstone United AFC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-1. Maidstone United AFC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
