New York Cosmos AFC's Paul Newbury tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 18 minutes into the match, New York Cosmos AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Kristian Topham came free, but Paul Newbury reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th match minute, AFC Ascoli was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chesney Jobson to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 21 minutes, Benjamin Edmonton took a quick shot and it went in 2-3 without a chance for Dale Tompkins to make any attempt to save it. When the match had gone on for 31 minutes, Chesney Jobson put it in 2-4 from a short distance just to the right of Paul Newbury. With a little luck, AFC Ascoli's Dale Tompkins got control of the ball when Pete Rundle tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of New York Cosmos AFC booed when AFC Ascoli was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chesney Jobson didn't get a good kick on the ball. When AFC Ascoli's Kristian Topham in the 42nd minute got a chance for a shot 42nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Kristian Topham took the ball and in the 53 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Paul Newbury. Paul Newbury dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-6. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Chesney Jobson in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paul Newbury saved New York Cosmos AFC from getting behind. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pete Rundle in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dale Tompkins saved AFC Ascoli from getting behind. Jo Allanson hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Dale Tompkins made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gwyn Blacksmith in the 73rd minute of play. In the 76th minute, Pete Rundle got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 80th minute, Benjamin Edmonton made a precise shot to the right of Dale Tompkins. AFC Ascoli's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-6. When the match clock showed 86 minutes, the score became 3-7 when Chesney Jobson sped through New York Cosmos AFC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Paul Newbury. When Adam Jennings fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AFC Ascoli's protests and gave Adam Jennings a yellow card for diving instead. AFC Ascoli:s Dale Tompkins showed great skill when he stopped Jake Hopker:s penalty. 4-7 came in the 90th minute when Jake Hopker all by himself managed to get straight through the defense and place the ball into the net to the right of Dale Tompkins.
