With a couple of smart ball manuevers Graeme Farrow in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paul Newbury saved New York Cosmos AFC from getting behind. Graeme Farrow sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 44 played minutes, Scarborough AFC's Ben Proctor shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Paul Newbury came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Scarborough AFC reached it. The supporters of New York Cosmos AFC booed when Scarborough AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matt Whitmore didn't get a good kick on the ball. 74 minutes into the match, New York Cosmos AFC's Jake Hopker broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. In the 81st match minute, Scarborough AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ben Proctor to maneuver through the defense. After 83 played minutes New York Cosmos AFC got a freekick which was hit by Gwyn Blacksmith. Paul Newbury didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Graeme Farrow went, in the 84th minute, to the upper right corner, 5-2 was the resulting score. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pete Rundle got free with Shane Portway in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Pete Rundle could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but Shane Portway made a huge save. Scarborough AFC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
