Dale Tompkins made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marius Rareș in the 4th minute of play. In the 4th minute, Marius Rareș ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Dale Tompkins was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 9 minutes into the match, AFC Ascoli's goal looked a bit too open when Ionică Milcoveanu came free, but Dale Tompkins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marius Rareș received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Dale Tompkins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Cosa Nostra getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Cristi Boșneag hit a great ball. A collision led to AFC Ascoli getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Adam Jennings hit a great ball. 14 minutes into the match, Cosa Nostra's Marius Rareș broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Cosa Nostra's Ionică Milcoveanu got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dale Tompkins didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marius Rareș went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rio Wedlock during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, AFC Ascoli's Rio Wedlock got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Ionică Milcoveanu might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dale Tompkins. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ionică Milcoveanu ran back to his position shaking his head. Mick Slade hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Vali Petrin made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Kristian Topham sent off a good shot on target. Vali Petrin was a little too slow when Rio Wedlock got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 32nd minute. The score was now 1-2. In the 35th minute, Marius Rareș got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Romeo Grindeanu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dale Tompkins read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. In the 40th minute, Shawn Crossley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ionică Milcoveanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vali Petrin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rio Wedlock in the 46th minute of the match. 46 minutes into the game, Tudor Buzilă was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cosa Nostra's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AFC Ascoli the free kick. After 46 played minutes Cosa Nostra got a freekick which was hit by Tudor Buzilă. Shawn Crossley charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Shawn Crossley the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 48th match minute, AFC Ascoli was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Shawn Crossley to maneuver through the defense. After the first half Cosa Nostra were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 53rd minute Kristian Topham shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vali Petrin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 55 minutes into the match, Cosa Nostra's Marius Rareș sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dale Tompkins narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Ionică Milcoveanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Romeo Grindeanu during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Vali Petrin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rio Wedlock in the 71st minute of play. Ionică Milcoveanu's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Dale Tompkins firmly grabbed it by the left post. Vali Petrin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rio Wedlock, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 80 minutes of play, AFC Ascoli's Kristian Topham made it 4-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Vali Petrin was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Kristian Topham managed to get in a good position for a shot. AFC Ascoli's supporters rose to their feet, but Kristian Topham was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vali Petrin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rio Wedlock in the 89th minute of play forced Cosa Nostra's goalkeeper Vali Petrin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dale Tompkins made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ionică Milcoveanu in the 90th minute. Vali Petrin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rio Wedlock, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Cosa Nostra's Vali Petrin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristian Topham in the 93rd minute of play. After some careless play in the AFC Ascoli defense, Ionică Milcoveanu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dale Tompkins. The AFC Ascoli fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dale Tompkins should have stopped the shot.
