After having played for 10 minutes, Mikel Cardeñosa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Samir de los Caños's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mikel Cardeñosa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 11 minutes into the match, New York Cosmos AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Mikel Cardeñosa came free, but Paul Newbury reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, Samir de los Caños's Falo Navarro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Paul Newbury made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. 19 minutes into the game, Benjamin Edmonton recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Jaume Rodriguez. Benjamin Edmonton showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. In the 22nd minute, Quirce Bodelon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 27th match minute, New York Cosmos AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gwyn Blacksmith to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Quirce Bodelon in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paul Newbury prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Aiert Verdeja received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Paul Newbury tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 33 played minutes New York Cosmos AFC got a freekick which was hit by Blair Elam. Mikel Cardeñosa struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Paul Newbury didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Samir de los Caños. Paul Newbury stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Xavian Naranjo's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. If Quirce Bodelon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paul Newbury didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Mikel Cardeñosa went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-4 was the resulting score. Samir de los Caños's Natalio Pedrosa was substituted for Quirce Bodelon. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Benjamin Edmonton to make the kick off. Natalio Pedrosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 56 minutes into the match, Natalio Pedrosa dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Paul Newbury, 1-5. Jaume Rodriguez didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jo Allanson went, in the 59th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-5 was the resulting score. Samir de los Caños's Mikel Cardeñosa got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jo Allanson kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Aiert Verdeja fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paul Newbury having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Natalio Pedrosa got free with Paul Newbury in the 68th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aiert Verdeja sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Samir de los Caños made a substitution. Ferdinand Alabern replaced Guillen Quintero. Iratze Riba hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Paul Newbury made a fantastic save in the 92nd minute, when Natalio Pedrosa sent off a good shot on target. Jaume Rodriguez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benjamin Edmonton in the 95th minute of the match. New York Cosmos AFC's Paul Newbury played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mikel Cardeñosa in the 97th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jo Allanson during the 97th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 98th match minute, New York Cosmos AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jo Allanson to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in New York Cosmos AFC's zone, Mikel Cardeñosa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paul Newbury came out of the goal and Mikel Cardeñosa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
