The referee showed Nechifor Iurea the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After some careless play in the Cosa Nostra defense, Benjamin Edmonton kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Vali Petrin. The Cosa Nostra fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vali Petrin should have stopped the shot. Ionică Milcoveanu struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. In the 26th minute, Ionică Milcoveanu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in New York Cosmos AFC's zone, Ionică Milcoveanu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paul Newbury came out of the goal and Ionică Milcoveanu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 94thth minute of the game Codrin Bidulescu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but New York Cosmos AFC's Paul Newbury was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Although Cosa Nostra had been in control for most of the match, New York Cosmos AFC still came away with the win.
