Spectators: 36 (Terracing: 28, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Graeme Farrow took the kick off in the first half of the match. Gwyn Blacksmith could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Shane Portway made a huge save. After 5 played minutes New York Cosmos AFC got a freekick which was hit by Jo Allanson. In the 7th minute, Vince Burgess left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Scarborough AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After some careless play in the Scarborough AFC defense, Benjamin Edmonton kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Shane Portway. The Scarborough AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Shane Portway should have stopped the shot. 18 minutes into the match, Gez Hassell notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of New York Cosmos AFC's Paul Newbury. Paul Newbury was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 23rd minute, Luke Higgins hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Benjamin Edmonton kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Shane Portway. That made the score 3-2 in the 26 minute of play. In the 35th minute of the match, Pete Rundle got a very nice opportunity to score, but Shane Portway was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Benjamin Edmonton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute, Iain Keane hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

In the 53rd match minute, New York Cosmos AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jo Allanson to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Graeme Farrow kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Paul Newbury. That made the score 3-4 in the 57 minute of play. Graeme Farrow fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paul Newbury having to interfere. Benjamin Edmonton blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Shane Portway having to make a save. In the 70th minute, Jo Allanson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 72nd match minute, Scarborough AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ian Keane to maneuver through the defense. Shane Portway showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jake Hopker in the 73rd minute of the match. In the 76th play minute Graeme Farrow came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Paul Newbury. 3-5. After 80 minutes, Gez Hassell mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Scarborough AFC and the New York Cosmos AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 81st minute, Gez Hassell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When New York Cosmos AFC's Pete Rundle in the 84th minute got a chance for a shot 84th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Scarborough AFC's goalie prevented a goal. Shane Portway took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pete Rundle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pete Rundle in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Shane Portway saved Scarborough AFC from getting behind. The supporters of New York Cosmos AFC booed when Scarborough AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pierre Huckerby didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 88th minute Benjamin Edmonton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Shane Portway saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 93 minutes, Graeme Farrow managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Scarborough AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Graeme Farrow was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Iain Keane shot from long distance in the 95th minute, but Paul Newbury was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Scarborough AFC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
