The audience thought a goal was coming when Mike Hunter got free with Louie Hicks in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Wakefield Wanderers's zone, Mike Hunter stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Louie Hicks came out of the goal and Mike Hunter tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Darryl Simpson put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Kristian Sykes. Louie Hicks made an important save on a dangerous shot by Carl Dodgson in the 41st minute. Jeff Duffy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. After 58 minutes of play, Troyes FC's Carl Dodgson made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Louie Hicks was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Troyes FC booed when Wakefield Wanderers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kristopher Scrivener didn't get a good kick on the ball. Troyes FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 72nd minute, when Ron Garrett scored to the left of an out of position Kristian Sykes, making the score, 2-3.
