Kristian Sykes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrian Claydon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 12th minute Mike Hunter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toby Topham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Toby Topham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carl Dodgson in the 13th minute of play. Huey Hughes in the 14thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Kristian Sykes, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Lance Cambridge kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. Terry Slator recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Kristian Sykes was out of position in the 20 minute of play, and Huey Hughes capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Huey Hughes really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Terry Slator hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. The supporters of K.S.V Waregem booed when Troyes FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cliff Whittington didn't get a good kick on the ball. 29 minutes into the game, Huey Hughes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Kristian Sykes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Adrian Claydon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kristian Sykes having to interfere. In the 34th minute, Mitch Leach hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 38 minutes into the match, Terry Slator had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Kristian Sykes. Troyes FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Terry Slator was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. After a rather tough play, Troyes FC's Mike Hunter got a free kick in the 42nd minute. If Terry Slator had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Huey Hughes was the one to do the kick off. K.S.V Waregem's Adrian Claydon got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Kristian Sykes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Terry Slator, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. In the 57th minute Huey Hughes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kristian Sykes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cliff Whittington sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Duncan Farrell in the 67th minute of play forced K.S.V Waregem's goalkeeper Toby Topham to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 69th minute, Crispin Hepburn got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Pat Bowe took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 71st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Kristian Sykes. Troyes FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 74 minutes into the match, Huey Hughes notched a goal, 4-1, to the right of Troyes FC's Kristian Sykes. Kristian Sykes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Trevor Kempson took the ball and in the 77 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Kristian Sykes. Kristian Sykes dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-1. When K.S.V Waregem's Huey Hughes in the 80th minute got a chance for a shot 80th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 85th minute of the match Mitch Leach shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Kristian Sykes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 85 minutes, Cliff Whittington mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Troyes FC and the K.S.V Waregem players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Troyes FC's Cliff Whittington got a free kick in the 86th minute. When Huey Hughes got free in front of the goal in the 87th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Kristian Sykes was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Huey Hughes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kristian Sykes was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. A collision led to K.S.V Waregem getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Terry Slator hit a great ball. Duncan Farrell struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Toby Topham didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Troyes FC. When K.S.V Waregem's Huey Hughes in the 95th minute got a chance for a shot 95th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
