In the 13th match minute, DongFeng Honda FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by 洪庭源 to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute Mircea Jupân shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but 庞默亦 saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, DongFeng Honda FC's 孔瑜威 got a free kick in the 16th minute. When Georg Gallin came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the DongFeng Honda FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Georg Gallin couldn't finish the play. 尹傲棋 fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vlad Covrig having to interfere. PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca's Vlad Covrig played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by 尹傲棋 in the 24th minute of play. In the 25th minute, Adrian Bârsan left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. DongFeng Honda FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by 肖思兴 in the 41st minute. Adrian Bârsan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. 庞默亦 tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After the first half PHOENIX Cluj-Napoca were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

DongFeng Honda FC's supporters rose to their feet, but 孔瑜威 was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vlad Covrig breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Adrian Bârsan managed to get in a good position for a shot.
