A beautiful save bye Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalie prevented a goal. Alf Engman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Du Lei Bin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 19th minute, Trey Easley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. AC United's Alf Engman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jean Britton in the 21st minute of play. In the 23rd minute Jean Britton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alf Engman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sport Lisboa e Benfica were awarded a corner in the 24th minute after AC United's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Barış Birsoy took the corner. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Barış Birsoy was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Alf Engman in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Herb Good made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Lindman in the 29th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Lindman in the 29th minute of play forced Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalkeeper Herb Good to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Joel Lindman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Garland Noël hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Alf Engman came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Jean Britton. But to his dismay, Jean Britton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. In the 46th minute Bernt Carlberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herb Good saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bernt Carlberg was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, AC United's goal looked a bit too open when Jean Britton came free, but Alf Engman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 53rd minute of the match Sport Lisboa e Benfica got a corner. AC United's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Barış Birsoy ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Marcel Lynn got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Alf Engman quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 56th play minute Joel Lindman came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Herb Good. 1-1. After 61 played minutes Sport Lisboa e Benfica got a freekick which was hit by Collin Grimm. 69 minutes into the match, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalkeeper Herb Good had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Joel Lindman. Herb Good stood somewhat misplaced when Joel Lindman came free in front of goal and shot 1-2 to the left of him in the 70 minute. AC United's Arne Alén was substituted for Orvar Fribäck. 75 minutes into the match, Du Lei Bin notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of AC United's Alf Engman. Alf Engman was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernt Carlberg in the 78th minute of play forced Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalkeeper Herb Good to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jean Britton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 86th match minute, Sport Lisboa e Benfica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Collin Grimm to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of AC United booed when Sport Lisboa e Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Garland Noël didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Arne Alén came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the AC United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arne Alén couldn't finish the play.
