Atacan Tuncay made in the 17th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Gimnasia y tiro's Bernardino Quintin. The supporters of Gimnasia y tiro booed when Smiddy Celts was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paddy Thomson didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Julio Poncio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Esben Nordborg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jesse McJames having to interfere. Smiddy Celts made a substitution. The tension between the Smiddy Celts and the Gimnasia y tiro players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jesse McJames came out of the goal and Julio Poncio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 99th minute, Endre Szentes fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Jesse McJames, passed just outside the right post.
