Eddy van den Eede made a great header on Westenenk's corner, it was just that Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba managed to reach the ball for a save. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Valio Tammisto in the 22nd minute of the match. With a little luck, Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba got control of the ball when Valio Tammisto tried to sneak it across the goal line. 25 minutes into the match, Westenenk's goal looked a bit too open when Diego Maradona came free, but Jaap van der Schans reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jaap van der Schans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matias Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. In the 28th minute of the match, Valio Tammisto tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Óscar Cordoba saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Jaap van der Schans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Venancio Emesto in the 30th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Venancio Emesto had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jaap van der Schans. Westenenk's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Venancio Emesto was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Óscar Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 34th minute, when Wieslaw Posadzki sent off a good shot on target. Venancio Emesto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gervasio Lauaxeta hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. After 37 played minutes, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jaap van der Schans came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sporting de Gijón reached it. Jaap van der Schans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matias Bilintx in the 42nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matias Bilintx in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jaap van der Schans saved Westenenk from getting behind. After 45 minutes of play, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jaap van der Schans was left in no man's land by his defense there!

Sporting de Gijón's Wayne Rooney was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Matias Bilintx made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Wayne Rooney got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wieslaw Posadzki in the 53rd minute of play. Matias Bilintx's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 59thth minute, Jaap van der Schans skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The supporters of Westenenk booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Atilano Feo didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 68 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Atilano Feo. Wayne Rooney fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jaap van der Schans having to interfere. In the 70th match minute, Westenenk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Filip Hansma to maneuver through the defense. Jaap van der Schans didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Diego Maradona went, in the 73rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. Wayne Rooney could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 76th minute of the match, but Jaap van der Schans made a huge save. Matias Bilintx didn't miss a given chance and shot in short distance 0-5 via right post in the game's 77th minute. Sporting de Gijón's supporters showed their exhuberating excitement! Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Mario Zanabria replaced Venancio Emesto. With a little luck, Westenenk's Jaap van der Schans got control of the ball when Wayne Rooney tried to sneak it across the goal line. Óscar Cordoba came out of the goal in the 83rd minute to try and stop a shot by Westenenk's Wieslaw Posadzki. But to his dismay, Wieslaw Posadzki quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-5. Westenenk's Jaap van der Schans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matias Bilintx in the 88th minute of play. Mario Zanabria kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 93rdth minute. Though ot was a great shot Westenenk's keeper Jaap van der Schans was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. In the 96th minute, Sporting de Gijón's Mario Zanabria ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jaap van der Schans. Jaap van der Schans yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-6. When the match was over Sporting de Gijón could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Westenenk throughout the match.
