Garibaldo Quijana showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eero Uusipaavalniemi, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. 12 minutes into the match, Fillos de Breogán's goal looked a bit too open when Taisto Pentsinen came free, but Garibaldo Quijana reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edwin van der Sar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Orti Sánchez in the 12th minute of the match. Manchester United FC's Edwin van der Sar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Calisto Abril in the 22nd minute of play. Garibaldo Quijana took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Taisto Pentsinen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Eero Uusipaavalniemi got free with Garibaldo Quijana in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Garibaldo Quijana made an important save on a dangerous shot by Valdemar Kuoppala in the 30th minute. Fillos de Breogán's Garibaldo Quijana proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 35th minute of the match, managed to save Fillos de Breogán from getting a goal against them. Manchester United FC were awarded a corner in the 38th minute after Fillos de Breogán's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Eero Uusipaavalniemi took the corner. Edwin van der Sar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orti Sánchez, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Orti Sánchez managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fillos de Breogán's supporters rose to their feet, but Orti Sánchez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edwin van der Sar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.

After 52 played minutes Manchester United FC got a freekick which was hit by Iiro Riksman. A hard shot by Xinto Palencia from long distance, 53 minutes into the match, got Edwin van der Sar's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After a rather tough play, Fillos de Breogán's Duardo Montero got a free kick in the 56th minute. The supporters of Manchester United FC booed when Fillos de Breogán was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Duardo Montero didn't get a good kick on the ball. Garibaldo Quijana came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Manchester United FC's Valdemar Kuoppala. But to his dismay, Valdemar Kuoppala quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Manchester United FC made a substitution. Jakob Stam replaced Iiro Riksman. Edwin van der Sar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zé Augusto Mandrak in the 66th minute. Thanks to some nice moves Zé Augusto Mandrak could shoot a difficult shot in the 67th minute, which Edwin van der Sar however easily saved by the left post. In the 69th minute Davide Beckham shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Garibaldo Quijana saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 72 played minutes Manchester United FC got a freekick which was hit by Gary Neville. In the 74th minute, Gary Neville hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Garibaldo Quijana didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Erik Cantona went, in the 77th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Xesus Galaiko in the 82nd minute of play forced Manchester United FC's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edwin van der Sar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Reno Wilmots in the 87th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Eero Uusipaavalniemi in the 92nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Garibaldo Quijana saved Fillos de Breogán from getting behind. In the 92ndth minute of the game Eero Uusipaavalniemi who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Fillos de Breogán's Garibaldo Quijana was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Fillos de Breogán's Zé Augusto Mandrak got a free kick in the 93rd minute. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Manchester United FC fully deserved thier win.
