Newells Old Boys's Semail Kılıçer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 16th minute of the match, managed to save Newells Old Boys from getting a goal against them. Dirk Kuijt's late challenge caught a FC Bonin's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dirk Kuijt helped the player get up and apologised. In the 19th minute, Dirk Kuijt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Semail Kılıçer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wasyl Harasimowicz, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maraman Muriedas in the 23rd minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Semail Kılıçer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gustavo Bou's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Semail Kılıçer firmly grabbed it by the left post. Gustavo Bou could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Semail Kılıçer made a huge save. Semail Kılıçer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wasyl Harasimowicz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 48th minute, Lokman Sağlamtürk ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Emanuel Pinho was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Gustavo Bou in the 58th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Semail Kılıçer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Maraman Muriedas hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Semail Kılıçer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gojko Bešlić in the 66th minute of the match. Semail Kılıçer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gustavo Bou, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to FC Bonin getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Gustavo Bou hit a great ball. After 85 minutes FC Bonin's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Dirk Kuijt who took care of the corner kick. Dirk Kuijt made a great header on Newells Old Boys's corner, it was just that FC Bonin's Emanuel Pinho managed to reach the ball for a save. Duardo Prado hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Dirk Kuijt was shown his second yellow card after 95 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Dirk Kuijt kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. FC Bonin's Black Noir was substituted for Gustavo Bou. In the 97th minute, Dirk Kuijt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Wasyl Harasimowicz came up free with the goalie in the 98th minute, the FC Bonin fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wasyl Harasimowicz couldn't finish the play.
