The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 2 played minutes K.S.V Waregem got a freekick which was hit by Trevor Kempson. Aiden McDaniell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrian Claydon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A throw-in in the 9th minute of the game was made by Phillip Wilson with Trevor Kempson as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Bruce Adams received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Toby Topham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Phillip Wilson made in the 22nd minute of the game a quick throw-in and Trevor Kempson immediately put the ball in play. Aiden McDaniell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adrian Claydon in the 24th minute of the match. A throw-in in the 27th minute of the game was made by Pat Bowe with Trevor Kempson as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Bruce Adams fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toby Topham having to interfere. If Johnny Kinnieson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 39 minutes into the match, Huey Hughes dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Aiden McDaniell, 1-0. After a rather tough play, K.S.V Waregem's Terry Slator got a free kick in the 44th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bruce Adams stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Ian McGugan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 52nd minute, Joseph Dyer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aiden McDaniell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Trevor Kempson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Huey Hughes in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aiden McDaniell prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Bruce Adams received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Toby Topham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 59th match minute, K.S.V Waregem was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pat Bowe to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Bruce Adams managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leith United's supporters rose to their feet, but Bruce Adams was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Toby Topham breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 66th minute, Adrian Claydon left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The K.S.V Waregem fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. 69 minutes in the game Phillip Wilson did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Brian Barat. Pat Bowe lost his temper 71 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 70 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for K.S.V Waregem! K.S.V Waregem:s Toby Topham showed great skill when he stopped Derek Lorne:s penalty. After 74 minutes, Brian Barat mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the K.S.V Waregem and the Leith United players grew even worse after the yellow card. Brian Barat hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, K.S.V Waregem's Terry Slator got a free kick in the 75th minute. Bruce Adams recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Robbie Gemmil fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Leith United's protests and gave Robbie Gemmil a yellow card for diving instead. Leith United's attentive Paul Beattie managed to snatch the ball when Huey Hughes made a throw-in in the 89th minute of the game. Bruce Adams sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Johnny Kinnieson came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Leith United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Johnny Kinnieson couldn't finish the play. A collision led to K.S.V Waregem getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Terry Slator hit a great ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, K.S.V Waregem could leave the field as winners, despite Leith United having more of the ball for most of the match.
