Adrian Claydon hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. In the 8th minute, Jonathan Canning made a precise shot to the right of Dale Nelson. AFC Wimbledon Wombles's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. A collision led to K.S.V Waregem getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Phillip Wilson hit a great ball. In the 12th minute of the match Brendon Crouch shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Toby Topham showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The supporters of AFC Wimbledon Wombles booed when K.S.V Waregem was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matty Bridge didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in AFC Wimbledon Wombles's zone, Huey Hughes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dale Nelson came out of the goal and Huey Hughes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind K.S.V Waregem's goalkeeper Toby Topham, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. AFC Wimbledon Wombles's Brendon Crouch got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jon Newman got in the 42nd a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Toby Topham handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Huey Hughes was the one to do the kick off. Adrian Claydon was extremely unlucky when he, in the 51st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Toby Topham made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jon Newman in the 55th minute of play. With a little luck, AFC Wimbledon Wombles's Dale Nelson got control of the ball when Trevor Kempson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Dale Nelson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adrian Claydon in the 63rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in K.S.V Waregem's zone, Brendon Crouch stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toby Topham came out of the goal and Brendon Crouch tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brendon Crouch's long shot made the audience stand up and applaude when it rumbled by Toby Topham on his right side and into the goal. 72 minutes into the game it was 2-1. After a defensive mix-up in K.S.V Waregem's zone, Wes Wills stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toby Topham came out of the goal and Wes Wills tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Jon Newman came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the AFC Wimbledon Wombles fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jon Newman couldn't finish the play. When Daryl Fairs fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AFC Wimbledon Wombles's protests and gave Daryl Fairs a yellow card for diving instead. When Brendon Crouch came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the AFC Wimbledon Wombles fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brendon Crouch couldn't finish the play. If Jon Newman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. K.S.V Waregem's Terry Slator got his second yellow card of the match in the 92nd minute. The referee ordered Terry Slator off the ground. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. AFC Wimbledon Wombles had played much better football throughout.
