Giru EC's Hugo Montenegro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cugat Quintero in the 34th minute of play. When Hamílton Couto fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Giru EC's protests and gave Hamílton Couto a yellow card for diving instead. Hamílton Couto hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Kiko Castelao made the kick off in the second half. Kiko Castelao's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Hugo Montenegro firmly grabbed it by the left post. Alicante FC's Julián Aballe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alexandre Varela in the 52nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Enol Soto in the 55th minute of play forced Giru EC's goalkeeper Hugo Montenegro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Alicante FC's Cugat Quintero got a free kick in the 56th minute. Alexandre Varela took the ball and in the 57 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julián Aballe. Kiko Castelao's late challenge caught a Giru EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kiko Castelao helped the player get up and apologised. After 61 played minutes Alicante FC got a freekick which was hit by Kiko Castelao. In the 63rd minute, Marco Saez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alexandre Varela struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Julián Aballe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Giru EC. Julián Aballe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamílton Couto, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Washington Gomes in the 82nd minute of play forced Alicante FC's goalkeeper Julián Aballe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Nicolas Fonseca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A collision led to Giru EC getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Hamílton Couto hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Alicante FC defense, Alexandre Varela kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julián Aballe. The Alicante FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julián Aballe should have stopped the shot. Julián Aballe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laerte Nóbrega in the 96th minute of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Alicante FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
