The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, Korolev's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Caton came free, but Yuriy Podkopalov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 14th play minutes Ian Caton shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Yuriy Podkopalov and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 16th minute, Sidney Bancroft hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rudolf Ignatov charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rudolf Ignatov the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. If Ian Caton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 23 minutes into the match, Yardley's Ian Caton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Yuriy Podkopalov narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Yardley's Pete Eslworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ilya Tolbuhin in the 27th minute of play. When Pat Tisdale fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Yardley's protests and gave Pat Tisdale a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Yardley's Pat Tisdale got a free kick in the 29th minute. In the 31st minute, Yaroslav Ostankin sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Yardley's Pete Eslworth didn't even have to move. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zack Langdon in the 33rd minute of play forced Korolev's goalkeeper Yuriy Podkopalov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ian Caton scored 0-2 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Yuriy Podkopalov, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 38th minute, Stephen Goodfellow hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 39 minutes of play Korolev's Rudolf Ignatov was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Rudolf Ignatov kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. In the 41st minute, Arseniy Baibakov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 42 minutes into the match, Yardley's Tristram Yeo broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Ian Caton put it in 0-3 from a short distance just to the right of Yuriy Podkopalov. The Korolev players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Yardley were winning 0-3.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ian Caton to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Korolev's goalkeeper Yuriy Podkopalov, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Ian Caton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Yuriy Podkopalov was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. Artur Chervitskiy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Pete Eslworth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Zack Langdon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yuriy Podkopalov having to interfere. In the 66thth minute of the game Ian Caton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Korolev's Yuriy Podkopalov was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Ian Caton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Yardley's supporters rose to their feet, but Ian Caton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Yuriy Podkopalov breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zack Langdon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Yuriy Podkopalov read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. After having played for 75 minutes, Ilya Tolbuhin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Korolev's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ilya Tolbuhin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Korolev fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 77th minute. Penalty! After 89 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Yardley! In the 91st minute there was a penalty for Korolev. Yaroslav Ostankin stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Pete Eslworth. 1-4. Yuriy Podkopalov showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ian Caton, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. After having played for 95 minutes, Zack Langdon managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Yardley's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zack Langdon was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Arseniy Baibakov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Yardley supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Yardley would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
