The referee ignored Azerbaijan's protests and gave Mehran Utandıbalayev a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Azerbaijan getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Nuşirävan Cäbrayilov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Grzegorz Gdaniec, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Azerbaijan were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
