Ovidiu Covali made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Kirk Monk sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to U21 Moldova getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Ilie Lazãr hit a great ball. Ion Creangã kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. In the 45thth minute of the game Kirk Monk who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Moldova's Ovidiu Covali was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When the match clock showed 46 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Kirk Monk sped through U21 Moldova's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ovidiu Covali. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

The supporters of U21 Northern Ireland booed when U21 Moldova was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ion Creangã didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ovidiu Covali made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jez Buckler in the 69th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jez Buckler in the 70th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ovidiu Covali saved U21 Moldova from getting behind. If Jez Buckler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A collision led to U21 Moldova getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Teodor Cociu hit a great ball. When Jez Buckler came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the U21 Northern Ireland fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jez Buckler couldn't finish the play. U21 Moldova's Ovidiu Covali played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jez Buckler in the 82nd minute of play. When the match clock showed 86 minutes, the score became 5-0 when Jez Buckler sped through U21 Moldova's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ovidiu Covali. The audience was convinced that Jez Buckler's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ovidiu Covali was relentless in the 92nd minute of the game. When the match had gone on for 95 minutes, Jez Buckler put it in 6-0 from a short distance just to the right of Ovidiu Covali.
