Bonifacio Rito took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 4th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Patricio Frederico. Santos Laguna's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Jesus Mirande fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Santos Laguna's protests and gave Jesus Mirande a yellow card for diving instead. Patricio Frederico showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fulgencio Hartz, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Celso Tajo made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Celso Niguel sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Santos Laguna getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Saverio Etxekopar hit a great ball. Saverio Etxekopar's shot from long distance in the 24th minute was not bad at all, but Lobos FC's Celso Tajo knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. When Antonio Basajaun came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Santos Laguna fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Antonio Basajaun couldn't finish the play. Severiano Rik kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Celso Tajo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Conrado Rico in the 32nd minute. The supporters of Santos Laguna booed when Lobos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gabriel Ekialde didn't get a good kick on the ball. Celso Niguel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Patricio Frederico showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ricardo Otsoko in the 43rd minute of the match. Arnulfo Richie charged in rather forcefully in the 49th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Arnulfo Richie the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Arnulfo Richie hit a great freekick 49 minutes into the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ricardo Otsoko to strike the kick off in the second half. The referee felt a red card was in order, 55 minutes into the game, when Saverio Etxekopar put in a rough tackle. The referee gave Lobos FC a penalty, 57 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Norberto Salomon, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Santos Laguna's Patricio Frederico. 0-1. Patricio Frederico took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnulfo Richie, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 61st minute, Arnulfo Richie reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Patricio Frederico. The goal made the score 0-2. Santos Laguna's defense didn't have a chance, in the 66th minute, when Eusebio Rencio scored to the left of an out of position Patricio Frederico, making the score, 0-3. In the 69th minute of the match, Fulgencio Hartz got a very nice opportunity to score, but Patricio Frederico was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After 70 minutes, Conrado Rico mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Santos Laguna and the Lobos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Conrado Rico hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. If Antonio Basajaun had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mariano Lekubegi kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. In the 82nd minute, Basilio Nofre made a precise shot to the right of Celso Tajo. Lobos FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Conrado Rico managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santos Laguna's supporters rose to their feet, but Conrado Rico was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Celso Tajo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Patricio Frederico showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eusebio Rencio in the 91st minute of the match. In the 92nd minute, Basilio Nofre ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Celso Tajo was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basilio Nofre in the 97th minute of play forced Lobos FC's goalkeeper Celso Tajo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Arnulfo Richie was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 98 minutes had been played. Arnulfo Richie kicked well hit freekick during the 98th minute of the match. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
