Pichincha's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 13th match minute, Pichincha was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicolas Blasco to maneuver through the defense. Lino Fagildo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Camilo Stanislao tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rene Ihazintu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Pichincha getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Genaro Joey hit a great ball. In the 28th minute, Santo Errapel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Arnulfo Distiratsu fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Godoy AFC's protests and gave Arnulfo Distiratsu a yellow card for diving instead. Alejo Daunte made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Artemio Betadur in the 32nd minute of play. In the 35th minute Rene Ihazintu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alejo Daunte saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Artemio Betadur had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rene Ihazintu struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Alejo Daunte didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pichincha. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Santo Errapel made the kick off in the second half. Pichincha's Camilo Stanislao played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Santo Errapel in the 52nd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rene Ihazintu in the 54th minute of play forced Godoy AFC's goalkeeper Alejo Daunte to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pichincha's Rene Ihazintu got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Pichincha's Leonides Peyo got a free kick in the 61st minute. If Lino Fagildo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. Camilo Stanislao showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lino Fagildo, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. Alejo Daunte was a little too slow when Artemio Betadur got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 78th minute. The score was now 0-1. Alejo Daunte stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rene Ihazintu's shot from short distance in the 82nd minute. Lino Fagildo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Camilo Stanislao tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
