Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fulgencio Santxol to make the kick off. Gavino Eduino stood somewhat misplaced when Ciriaco Abechuco came free in front of goal and shot 0-2 to the left of him in the 51 minute. An unexpected shot in the 66th minute by Jairo Millano got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 75 minutes into the match, Melgar's goal looked a bit too open when Abelardo Reno came free, but Ahmet Hafiz Başer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
